Scoring & Levels of Change

The I.C.E.berg Change Chart is a holistic tool that explores eight areas of a clients life. They are asked tentative questions about each section so that information can be gathered through collaborative discussion, in order to create an action plan and determine an accurate score. Scoring is modelled on the six levels of change recognised in CBT. 

 

AREAS FOR SCORING:

  2. Accommodation
  3. Financial Freedom
  4. Physical Health and Self-care
  5. Managing Emotional Well-being
  6. Relationships
  7. Social Networks
  8. Self-esteem and Identity

 

SCORING:

  1. Not ready for help
  2. Accepting help
  3. Trying
  4. Learning
  5. Re-building
  6. Independence and Empowerment

 

 

LEVELS OF CHANGE:

  1. (Pre-contemplative) Not ready for help

The client is unaware that there is a problem. They have no intention to change and are stuck in their circumstances. The client is not ready for help to change their situation.

 

  1. (Contemplative) Accepting help

The client is aware that there is a problem and sees the need to change. They are open to information and exploring options to change their circumstances. The client is accepting help to change their situation.

 

  1. (Preparing) Trying

The client has made a decision and commitment to change. They are taking steps to change their circumstances. The client is trying to change their situation.

 

  1. (Action) Learning

The client is making changes in their life. They are open to information and exploring options to change their circumstances. The client is learning how to change their situation.

 

  1. (Maintenance) Re-building

The client has successfully changed some of their circumstances and consolidated a new lifestyle. They are open to exploring options as to how to maintain their changes. The client is re-building their situation.

 

  1. (Termination) Independence and empowerment

The client no longer considers their former circumstances desirable and has made a change. The client feels independent and empowered.
