What is domestic abuse?

Domestic Abuse is a pattern of behaviour which involves violence or other types of abuse by one person against another in a domestic setting. It happens in intimate relationships where one person uses methods of control to gain power over the other.
This part explores what domestic abuse is; tactics used by perpetrators, the role of power and control, and how it affects our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. The aim is to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse, stay safe, and break the pattern of engaging in abusive relationships. Through exploring the many aspects of domestic abuse, they are able to understand their experience, get closure and increase their independence.
